Presto FryDaddy Review (2026)
Presto FryDaddy review: 4 cups of oil, automatic temperature with no dial, snap-on storage lid, and scoop serving for fries and snacks for one or two.

Presto FryDaddy Deep Fryer 05420
A tiny 4 cup fryer with no thermostat to set, just plug in and fry.
Our verdict
The FryDaddy does exactly one thing: it fries small batches with zero setup, zero settings, and very little oil. Within those limits it is excellent. Outside them, for chicken pieces, big batches, or temperature sensitive foods, it is simply the wrong tool.
What we like
- Automatic temperature control with no dial to manage
- Uses only 4 cups of oil, so oil turnover stays fresh and cheap
- Nonstick pot inside and out with a snap on storage lid
- Small footprint stores in a cabinet easily
What to watch out for
- 4 cup capacity fries about two servings at a time
- No basket, food is lifted with the included scoop
- Fixed temperature does not suit delicate foods needing lower heat
Who it is for
Singles, couples, and small households who fry fries, shrimp, onion rings, or mozzarella sticks for one or two people will use the FryDaddy constantly. It also suits RVs and dorm style cooking where storage is minimal. Families and fried chicken fans need a full size basket fryer.
Automatic temperature, tiny oil volume
There is no dial. The FryDaddy maintains a proper frying temperature automatically at 1200 watts, and because it heats only 4 cups of oil, it is ready quickly and the oil stays affordable to replace often.
That small oil volume is the hidden quality feature: home fryers with big tanks tempt owners to stretch old oil, while the FryDaddy oil turns over fast enough to stay fresh tasting.
No basket, and what that means
Food goes straight into the pot and comes out with the included scoop. For fries and sturdy items this is fine and fast. For delicate battered foods, pieces can stick to each other and to the pot if added carelessly.
The snap on lid is for storage only, not for frying, so expect open pot splatter and steam, and keep the area around the fryer clear.
How it stacks up
Against the Presto GranPappy, the FryDaddy is the same idea at 4 cups versus 6 cups and 1200 versus 1500 watts. Choose the GranPappy for fries for three or four; the FryDaddy for one or two and the tightest storage.
Against the Hamilton Beach 35021, the FryDaddy wins on size, simplicity, and oil economy. The Hamilton Beach wins on everything else: a basket, a splatter lid with a window, and adjustable temperature in a still compact 2 liter body.
Storage, oil freshness, and small counters
The FryDaddy ownership advantage is how completely it disappears between sessions. At 3 pounds and 8.4 x 8.9 x 7.9 inches it stores in a cabinet easily, and the snap-on lid keeps the oil covered between weekly uses, so there is no separate oil container to house or label.
That tiny 4 cup oil volume also keeps the oil honest. Because a fill is cheap to replace, owners turn it over quickly instead of stretching degraded oil across months of sessions, and the nonstick pot inside and out wipes clean fast. The open top is the standing compromise: steam escapes freely while frying, so plan counter clearance around the pot.

FAQ
Questions, answered straight
What temperature does the FryDaddy cook at?
Presto sets it to maintain a standard frying temperature automatically, around the range used for fries and most snacks. There is no adjustment, by design.
How much food fits in the FryDaddy?
About four servings of fries per Presto, which in practice means generous portions for two people per batch.
Can I store oil in the FryDaddy?
Yes. The snap on lid is made for storing the cooled oil in the pot between uses, which most owners do for a handful of sessions.
